2025 Reflection & 2026 Outlook

Learning Through Participation, Grounded in Culture

For CBFHK, 2025 was a year focused on practice, observation, and groundwork. Rather than pursuing volume, we prioritised meaningful participation, using real-world engagement to better understand the relationship between community, culture, and education.

2025: Practice Through Participation

During the year, the charity took part in two public initiatives of different nature but shared philosophy.

At HKPOP CultureFest 2025, CBFHK participated as a supporting organisation in a public exhibition showcasing Hong Kong comics and popular culture. Through accessible exhibition formats and public engagement, the programme invited audiences across generations to reconnect with local creative works and to appreciate comics as cultural assets grounded in skill and heritage.

In parallel, we organised Healthy Communities Day, supported by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Community Sponsorship Scheme. Designed as a participatory community carnival, the programme integrated health education with hands-on engagement, demonstrating how everyday community spaces can become environments for learning, dialogue, and awareness-building.

Together, these experiences highlighted a shared insight: when people participate actively, learning becomes more natural and meaningful.

Reflections from the Year

Several observations emerged from CBFHK’s work in 2025:

  • Learning is not confined to classrooms; community and cultural spaces also hold educational potential

  • Cultural forms such as comics can act as bridges across generations

  • Participation and lived experience often deepen understanding more effectively than one-way communication

  • The intention and depth of programme design can matter more than scale alone

These reflections continue to inform how we think about future directions.

Beyond Programmes: Dialogue and Exploration

Beyond completed activities, 2025 was also a year of ongoing conversations. The charity engaged with educators, cultural practitioners, and community partners to better understand practical challenges and emerging needs, and to exchange perspectives on culture, education, and public participation.

While not all discussions translate immediately into programmes, they form an important part of our learning process.

Looking Ahead to 2026: Culture and Social Awareness

Looking ahead to 2026, we will continue reflecting on the role of culture in addressing contemporary social concerns. As topics such as sustainability, environmental responsibility, and ESG become increasingly embedded in everyday life, CBFHK believes there is a growing need for these ideas to be understood not only through policy or instruction, but also through culture.

We see value in exploring how familiar cultural forms can help younger generations engage with social and environmental issues in more approachable ways. When culture and social awareness intersect, education may become more participatory, relatable, and enduring.

Closing

CBFHK will continue to move forward with care and openness, grounding future initiatives in reflection, participation, and cultural understanding. The path ahead will be shaped by past experience, present observation, and a long-term view of social and cultural development.
